Lets say a company has discovered how to make a water heater using superior technology and a different production process than the conventional water heater. A Production Manager or Engineer is the one who will streamline that manufacturing process, improve quality control and optimize the use of materials and technology. Very often it is this manufacturing process that separates the ordinary product from an elite product.

These are the persons that come up with the technology before it is put into its application. Large companies will pay alot of money for research if they know that it is possible that they can make money from the application of cutting edge technology.

Green Architect

Architects can make buildings look beautiful and be functional as well. But really good architects can do all of that, plus maximizing the buildings ability to use as much natural light and ventilation as possible. This reduces the need for air conditioning and reduces the time needed for lights to be used. Also architects can take the lead in terms of suggesting how to implement and integrate newer technologies into building design such as building integrated photovoltaics where PV material is in the form of window panels or roof shingles.

Energy Manager/Auditor/Consultant

To raise energy efficiency in structures, most buildings will have to be retrofitted with better equipment and before that can be done the energy use must be analysed and assessed before solutions are suggested. All of these duties can fall to an energy manager or consultant, who can determine if energy is being wasted in certain areas, which loads contribute the most/least to consumption and after that suggest a range of solutions. These solutions may involve changing equipment, adjusting settings and timings of other equipment

Necessity is the mother of invention, and the need for clean, alternative, efficient energy sources will create a whole new market on the world stage. The demand for persons specializing in these fields is going to rise rapidly in the next few years.
